No. 7 Mountain Cats Rebound With 23-14 PSAC Over Seton Hill in Sports Center

6423Major decision wins by No. 3 Joey Alessandro and No. 1 Chris Eddins gave the seventh-ranked Pitt-Johnstown wrestlers an early double-digit lead in route to a 23-14 PSAC victory over Seton Hill Friday night in the Sports Center.  The Mountain Cats bounced back from Wednesday's loss at Gann to improve to 14-3 overall and 3-1 in the conference.
 
Brendon Howard's 20-3 technical fall at 2:31 of the opening period put the Mountain Cats in front 5-0, but Seton Hill got a 10-7 decision from Alan Diltz at 133 lbs. to cut it to 5-3.
 
Pitt-Johnstown answered back with two straight major decision wins to push its lead into double digits.  Alessandro defeated Tyler Kenney, 10-2, at 141, and Eddins scored a 12-3 major decision over Austin Shaw at 149 lbs. to extend the lead to 13-3.
 
After Corey Falleroni's 8-6 win over Alec Shaw at 157 lbs. made it three consecutive Pitt-Johnstown wins, the Griffins cut the deficit to 16-7 with Jake Willochell's 11-1 major decision win at 165 lbs.
 
6437Brock Biddle improved to 21-1 with a 6-2 win over Sean Hoover at 174 lbs. to get those points right back for Pitt-Johnstown.
 
Seton Hill followed with a 10-2 win by Billy Bowlen over Mike Geyer at 184 lbs., but the Mountain Cats' sixth-ranked Levi Niebauer dealt Jake Shaffer a 10-1 major decision loss that put it out of reach at 23-11.
 
Seton Hill was able to get a 2-1 decision from Jake Beistel over Tyler Oliver at 285 lbs. to set the final at 23-14.
 
With the loss, the Griffins fell to 6-5 overall and 2-3 in the PSAC.
 
Pitt-Johnstown will celebrate Senior Night next Friday with a PSAC match against Shippensburg at 7 p.m. in the Sports Center, before closing out the 2018-19 regular season at Mercyhurst on February 8.
