
Pitt-Johnstown erased a 10-0 deficit in the fourth set to force a fifth set with a 25-20 win, before earning a non-conference victory at Point Park on Wednesday by taking the deciding set, 15-8.
Noelle Carota and
Caitlin Vrabel had 15 and 11 kills, respectively for the Mountain Cats, who made it four straight wins and improved to 11-8.
After splitting the first two sets 25-20 and 25-23, the Pioneers took the third set 25-20, before Pitt-Johnstown clawed back with two straight wins.
Carota, this week's PSAC Southwest Athlete of the Week, finished with a match-high 15 kills, nine digs, and a pair of blocks, while Vrabel added 11 kills, three digs, and a block to pace the Mountain Cats.
Tatiana Pitcher had eight kills,
Anna Johns had five kills, and
Molly Ayres had four kills, three service aces, and eight digs.
J.C. Longeville's match-high 26 set assists and seven digs and
Abi Leitner's 13 assists led the way for Pitt-Johnstown, while
Erin Carmody had a match-high 26 digs, and
Gabi DeRenzo had 12 digs.
Point Park, which fell to 16-7 on the season, was led by Maria Ferragonio and Haley English, who each had 13 kills.
Pitt-Johnstown returns home to host PSAC matches against California (PA) on Friday at 7 p.m. and Seton Hill on Saturday at 1 p.m.
