Mercyhurst jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead 12 minutes into the match and made them stand up in a 2-0 PSAC Western Division victory over the Pitt-Johnstown women's soccer team, Saturday afternoon in Erie. The Mountain Cats fell to 4-11-0 overall and 3-10-0 in the PSAC.
Lauren Casey finished an assist from Alyssa Otto in the 11
th minute to open the scoring, before Amber Thompson scored an unassisted goal just over a minute later to give Mercyhurst a 2-0 advantage.
That's all the scoring the Lakers would need. Mercyhurst's Vilde Wold picked-up the shutout in goal after facing seven Pitt-Johnstown shots and making four saves.
Maria Mosquera took the loss in goal for Pitt-Johnstown after allowing the two goals. Mosquera saw 10 shots and made five saves for the Mountain Cats.
With the win, the Lakers improved to 7-5-2 overall and 6-5-1 in the PSAC West.
Pitt-Johnstown travels to a PSAC match at Indiana (PA) on Wednesday, before returning home to celebrate Senior Day with a conference match against California (PA) on Saturday.
