LaDuke, Pitt-Johnstown Roll to 6-0 Non-Conference Win Over Salem

Johnstown, PA

7436The Pitt-Johnstown women's soccer team broke open a one-goal halftime lead with five unanswered goals in the second half, including a pair from Abby LaDuke, in a 6-0 non-conference victory over Salem (WV) University, Wednesday afternoon at the Pitt-Johnstown Soccer Field.  The Mountain Cats improved to 4-6-0 on the year.
 
Pitt-Johnstown, which outshot Salem 25-1 in the opening half, finally got on the scoreboard in the 42nd minute on Maddie Ivory's header off of Alexis Johnson's free kick.
 
That goal got the Mountain Cats rolling.  Pitt-Johnstown came out in the second half and made it 2-0 on Emily Esser's shot from the top of the box off of Kyra Watkins' assist in the 58th minute.
 
LaDuke then scored her team-leading seventh and eighth goals of the season over a short two minute span.  In the 61st minute, LaDuke took the ball from Salem goalkeeper Chelsea Cordice and scored, before finishing an unassisted goal in the 63rd minute to increase Pitt-Johnstown's lead to 4-0.
 
The Mountain Cats then got a goal from Jenna Shoop off of Marisa Lizins cross in the 80th minute, and Mia Dirienzo's unassisted goals with eight minutes to play set the final at 6-0.
 
Maria Mosquera and Sachi Negri shared the shutout in goal for Pitt-Johnstown after seeing just two shots and making one save.
 
Cordice faced 48 shots from the Mountain Cats and made 14 saves for the Tigers, who fell to 1-9-0 on the season.
 
Pitt-Johnstown hosts a PSAC match against Gannon on Saturday at noon at the Pitt-Johnstown Soccer Field, before traveling to a conference match at Slippery Rock on Wednesday.
