Kutztown Jumps out to Early Lead in Win Over Pitt-Johnstown

Clermont, Fla.

6274Kutztown jumped out to a 3-0 first inning lead on its way to an 8-0 victory in five innings over Pitt-Johnstown, Monday afternoon in Clermont, Fla.  Jade Stubblefield had two hits for the Mountain Cats and finished her day at 5-for-5 after collecting three hits against Notre Dame (OH) earlier in the day.
 
The Golden Bears struck for three runs in the top of the first inning off of Pitt-Johnstown starter Ashley Pagliei.  Katelyn Ostaszewski's single scored Sarah Keeney, and Jenna Lipowski followed with a sacrifice fly that made it 2-0.  Kutztown added another run on Hannah Auvil's infield single that chased home Tamara Jennings.
 
Pagliei held Kutztown off the scoreboard until the fourth inning when Alyssa Donato's ground ball through the left side plated Cheyenne Jones.  Two batters later, Ostaszewski drove in two more with a single to center that increased it to 6-0.
 
6259Kristin Kaleycik then pushed it out to 8-0 with a two-run triple in the Golden Bear's half of the fifth inning.
 
Stubblefield went 2-for-2 with two singles and Sydney Flinn added a base hit for Pitt-Johnstown.
 
Pagliei suffered the loss in the circle for the Mountain Cats and slipped to 0-2 after allowing eight runs on 13 Kutztown hits.  Pagliei struck out two and didn't allow a walk.
 
Osatszewski had two hits and drove in two, and Kaleycik had two RBI to lead the Golden Bears.
 
Bridget Bailey earned the win after holding Pitt-Johnstown scoreless on two hits over the first four innings.  Amber Brugger pitched the fifth and allowed one hit.
 
Kutztown improved to 4-6 with the victory.
 
Pitt-Johnstown continues its Spring Trip in Florida with games against New York Institute of Technology and Winona State (Minn.) on Thursday and Ferris State (MI) and Saint Thomas Aquinas on Friday.
