St. Thomas Aquinas Builds Early Lead, Then Holds Off Pitt-Johnstown

Clermont, Fla.

6274St. Thomas Aquinas scored three runs in the first inning and two in the second to jump out to a 5-0 lead, then held off Pitt-Johnstown, 5-2, Friday afternoon in Clermont, Fla.  Jade Stubblefield had two hit and two RBI, and Lauren Gohacki added two hits for the Mountain Cats, now 4-4.
 
Briana Keaveney led off the St. Thomas Aquinas first inning with a walk and scored on Ashley Landolina's double.  Landolina moved up to third and came home on Kelcy McGeehan's ground out, before Amanda Leone's solo homer made it 3-0.
 
In the second, Taylor Sullivan walked and moved to third on Valerie Winalski one-out single.  Landolina's fielder's choice scored Sullivan from third and a Pitt-Johnstown error allowed Winalski to score to extend it to 5-0.
 
The Mountain Cats responded with two runs in the top of the third inning.  Ashley Shor reached on a fielder's choice and Morgan Cannin reached on an error.  6263After an Olivia Porter ground out to the pitcher moved both runners up a base, Stubblefield doubled to left center, chasing home Shor and Cannin to cut it to 5-2.
 
However, St. Thomas Aquinas starter Colleen Borum held Pitt-Johnstown scoreless the rest of the way.
 
Stubblefield had two doubles and drove in a pair, and Gohacki was 2-for-3 for the Mountain Cats.
 
Ashley Pagliei got the start for Pitt-Johnstown and gave up five runs (4 earned) on four hits in two innings to slip to 0-3.  Kristen Coffay pitched the final four innings and held St. Thomas to no runs on one hit.
 
Borum got the complete-game win after allowing two runs (1 earned) on five Mountain Cat hits.
 
Winalski had two hits and Landolina drove in two for St. Thomas Aquinas.
 
Pitt-Johnstown ends its trip to Florida with games against Saint Michael's (VT) and the University of Sioux Falls on (SD) on Saturday, before traveling to Millersville for a non-conference doubleheader on Wednesday.  The Mountain Cats are scheduled to make their home debut with non-conference doubleheaders against Edinboro on March 23 and Shippensburg on March 24 at V.E. Erickson Complex.
