Softball Sweeps Pair of PSAC Games From Clarion, 5-1 and 9-1

6269After a solid 5-1 victory in Saturday's PSAC Central Division opener against Clarion at V.E. Erickson Complex, Kristie Radvan drove in three, and Ashley Pagliei tossed a one-hitter to lead Pitt-Johnstown to a 9-1 win in five innings to complete the sweep.  The Mountain Cats improved to 10-10 overall and 2-2 in conference-play.
 
In the opener, Pitt-Johnstown jumped out to a 3-0 first-inning lead and went on to the 5-1 win
 
Pitt-Johnstown loaded the bases on three walks in the bottom of the first and came away with three runs.  Stacey Walling was hit by a pitch to force home Morgan Cannin, before Ali Belgiovane's infield single scored Jade Stubblefield and Bree Ginther to give the Mountain Cats an early 3-0 lead.
 
In the bottom of the third, Radvan led off with a walk, worked her way to third, and scored on Lauren Gohacki's ground out to make it 4-0.
 
6271Rebecca Kelley's lead–off homer to left-center in the top of the fourth inning, cut Clarion's deficit to 4-1, but Pitt-Johnstown quickly got that run back in the bottom of the frame.  Stubblefield singled with two outs and scored on Radvan's double down the left field line to set the final at 5-1.
 
Cannin went 2-for-3 with a run, and Belgionvane had a hit and drove in a pair for the Mountain Cats.  Walling had a hit and an RBI, and Stubblefield singled and scored two runs.
 
Kristen Coffay picked-up the complete-game win and improved to 4-5.  Coffay allowed just one run and scattered six Clarion hits.  She struck out five and walked one.
 
Macy Rubin took the loss and fell to 0-9 after giving up five unearned runs on six hits in six innings.
 
6255In the nightcap, Pitt-Johnstown built an early five run lead and got a one-hitter from Pagliei to complete the sweep.
 
Just like the opener, the Mountain Cats scored in the first inning.  Cannin led off with a single, and Olivia Porter and Stubblefield followed with bunt base hits.  Radvan was hit by a pitch to force home Cannin, and Belgiovane's fielder's choice scored Porter to give Pitt-Johnstown a quick 2-0 lead.
 
Radvan's bases loaded single in the second scored Sydney Flinn and Cannin, and Belgiovane scored on a Clarion throwing error in the third it increase it to 5-0.
 
The Golden Eagles got a run back in the fourth.  Makenzie Wolfe doubled to right field, moved to third on Nicole Colling's ground out, and came in to score on Jess Cartia's sacrifice fly.
 
However, the Mountain Cats tacked on three unearned runs in the fourth before ending it in the fifth.  Hailei Markee walked to lead off the inning and moved to second on a wild pitch.  Stubblefield followed two batters later with an RBI double down the left field line to close out the 9-1 win.
 
Pagliei limited Clarion to just one run on one hit, Wolfe's double in the fourth, in five innings to raise her record to 2-3.
 
Radvan drove in three, while Cannin, Porter, Flinn, and Stubblefield all had two hits for the Mountain Cats.  Belgiovane had a hit, an RBI and two, runs, and Porter and Cannin also scored a pair of runs.
 
With the loss, Clarion fell to 0-25 overall and 0-2 in the PSAC Central.
 
Pitt-Johnstown will host a PSAC doubleheader against on Bloomsburg on Friday at 2:30 p.m. at V.E. Erickson Complex, before traveling to Mansfield for a pair of conference games on Saturday.
