Softball Suffers Pair of tight One-Run Losses at PSAC Foe Bloomsburg

Bloomsburg, PA

6274Jade Stubblefield collected six hits and drove in two, but Bloomsburg was able to hold off the Pitt-Johnstown softball team for 6-5 and 3-2 PSAC Central Division victories, Thursday afternoon in Bloomsburg.  The Mountain Cats are now 16-16 overall and 6-8 on conference-play.

In game one, the Huskies struck for a pair of first inning runs, then made it 3-0 in the second on Erin DelPierre's RBI single.

Pitt-Johnstown came back with four runs in the four to take the lead.  Carly Santillo walked and pinch runner Hailei Markee scored on Ashley Shor's single to right to get the Mountain cats on the scoreboard.  With the bases loaded, Morgan Cannin drew a walk that forced home Lauren Gohacki, and Stubblefield followed two batters later with a two-run single that plated Bree Ginther and Shor.

Bloomsburg knotted it in its half of the fourth on a Taylor Winkelman RBI double, before the Huskies regained the lead for good on Tara Baney's two-run homer in bottom of the sixth.

6271The Mountain Cats were able to cut it to 6-5 when Stubblefield scored on a Bloomsburg error, but that was as close as Pitt-Johnstown could get.

Stubblefield was a perfect 4-for-4 with a double and two RBI, and Cannin and Shor each drove in runs for Pitt-Johnstown.

Kristen Coffay suffered the loss and fell to 6-8 after surrendering six runs on 10 hits in six innings in the circle.

Bamey pitched 3 1/3 innings in relief of starter and held the Mountain Cats to one runs on four hits to raise her record to 8-7.

Baney was also 2-for-3 with a home run and three RBI at the plate, Kelsey Impink and Winkelman each had two hits for the Huskies.

In the nightcap, Taylor Mendicino singled, then scored on a double steal to give Pitt-Johnstown a 1-0 third inning lead.

Bloomsburg answered with a two-run homer from Marissa Shelhamer in the Bloomsburg half of the fifth, but the Mountain Cats were able to knot it in the top of the sixth on Kristie Radvan's solo home run over the left-centerfield fence.

However, DelPierre reached base on a single to left-center and advanced to second on the throw in bottom sixth inning.  After Shelhamer popped up for the second out, Sami Starr doubled to the gap in left-center that plated Shelhamer with the eventual game-winner for Bloomsburg.

Alyssa Hileman took the loss for Pitt-Johnstown in relief of starter Ashley Pagliei.  Hileman allowed one run on two Bloomsburg hits in two innings.  Pagliei pitched the first four inning and gave up two runs on four hits.

Radvan homered, Stubblefield had two hits, and Stacey Walling and Mendicino each had hits for the Mountain Cats.

Baney picked-up her second victory of the day and improved to 9-7 in a complete-game effort.  Baney limited the Mountain Cats to two runs (1 earned) on five hits.

Shelhamer had two hits and drove in two, and DelPierre added two hits to help the Huskies improve to 24-13 overall and 11-3 in the PSAC Central.

Pitt-Johnstown travels to PSAC Central doubleheaders at Clarion on Saturday and at Indiana (PA) on April 26, before closing out the regular season and celebrating Senior Day with a conference doubleheader against Mansfield on April 27 starting at 5 p.m. at V.E. Erickson Complex.
