Pitt-Johnstown Sweeps PSAC Doubleheader at Clarion, 6-0 and 9-5

6271Kristie Radvan collected four hits and drove in three, and Kristen Coffay pitched a two-hit shutout in the opener to help the Pitt-Johnstown softball team earn a 6-0 and 9-5 PSAC Central doubleheader sweep at Clarion on Wednesday.  The Mountain Cats are now 18-16 overall and 8-8 in conference-play.
 
In game one, Morgan Cannin's base hit up the middle in the Pitt-Johnstown top of the second plated Stacey Walling and Bree Ginther, before Olivia Porter singled through the left side to score Cannin and put the Mountain Cats on top 3-0.
 
Pitt-Johnstown added three more in the fourth.  Radvan's infield single chased home Porter, who opened the inning with a base hit, and Walling followed two batters later with a two-run double that scored Jade Stubblefield and Radvan.
 
Coffay tossed a complete-game shutout for the Mountain Cats to improve to 7-8.  Coffay allowed just two hits, a single by Morgan Lynn to lead off the bottom of 6257the first and a single by McKenzie Wolfe to start the bottom of the fourth.  Coffay also struck out six and walked one.
 
Walling went 3-for-4 with a double and two RBI to lead a 12-hit Pitt-Johnstown attack.  Cannin had two hits and drove in a pair, while Porter and Radvan each collected two hits and an RBI.
 
Macy Rubin suffered the loss in the circle for Clarion.  Rubin gave up six runs (5 earned) on 11 hits in the first 3 1/3 innings.
 
In the nightcap, the Mountain Cats jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first after Morgan Cannin led off the game with a base hit and came around to score on Stubblefield's double to the gap in left center.
 
Clarion answered with three unearned runs in the bottom of the first, but Pitt-Johnstown came right back to tie it in the third on Radvan's RBI single that scored Porter from second and Ali Belgiovane's RBI triple.
 
The Mountain Cats kept it going with three more runs in the fourth.  Ginther and Taylor Mendicino each singled and moved up a base on Sydney Flinn's bunt base hit.  Ginther and Mendicino then scored on a Golden Eagles' error ahead of Stubblefield's sacrifice fly that drove in Flinn to make it 6-3.
 
Clarion cut it to 6-4 in the bottom of the fourth on Lynn's sacrifice fly, then to 6-5 in the fifth on a Natalie Else RBI single.
 
Pitt-Johnstown got a run back in the sixth when Radvan singled-home Porter, before tacking on two more insurance runs in the seventh to set the final at 9-5.
 
Radvan added two more hits and two RBI, while Stubblefield doubled and drove in a pair of Pitt-Johnstown.  Cannin had two hits, and Belgiovane tripled home a run.
 
Ashley Pagliei evened her record at 4-4 after giving up five runs (2 earned) on eight hits in five innings.  Alyssa Hileman picked-up her first save after holding Clarion scoreless on one hit over the final two innings.
 
With the losses, the Golden Eagles fell to 0-39 overall and 0-16 in the PSAC Central Division.
 
Pitt-Johnstown travels to a PSAC Central doubleheader at Indiana (PA) on Friday, before closing out the regular season and celebrating Senior Day with a conference doubleheader against Mansfield on Saturday starting at 5 p.m. at V.E. Erickson Complex.
