
California (PA) opened-up a 4-0 second-inning lead and was able to hold on for a 4-2 victory in Saturday's first game of a PSAC Central Division doubleheader in Washington, Pa.

Patrick Brogan's two-run single in the bottom of the first inning gave California (PA) and early lead, before Justin Stewart and Ben Maudie scored on Nico Marchetti's double in the Vulcan's second that made it 4-0.

Pitt-Johnstown cut the deficit in half in the fourth with a pair of unearned runs.Â
Scott Thompson reached on a California (PA) error and scored on
Lennox Pugh's sacrifice fly, and
Zach Zinn doubled and scored on
Tyler Smith's single to right field.

The Mountain Cats threatened with two runners on base in the top of the seventh, but Nick Riggle was able to work out of the jam to secure the complete-game,

4-2 victory for the Vulcans.

Riggle scattered four hits and held Pitt-Johnstown to two unearned runs in seven innings of work to improve to 4-1.

Dylan Heid took the loss and fell to 5-2 for the Mountain Cats. Heid pitched six innings and allowed four runs on four hits, while striking out 13 and walking three.

Zinn doubled and Smith added a hit and an RBI for Pitt-Johnstown.

Brogan and Marchetti each drove in two for California (PA).

Pitt-Johnstown hosts a PSAC doubleheader against California (PA) on Monday at 1 p.m. at Point Stadium, before traveling to Slippery Rock on Friday to open a four-game conference series.
