Dominating Second Half Leads Cats to 107-69 PSAC Crossover Win Over Mansfield

Wise, JoshPitt-Johnstown connected on 14 3-pointers and outscored Mansfield 60-28 in the second half to turn a six-point halftime lead into a lopsided 107-69 PSAC Crossover victory over Mansfield, Wednesday night in the Sports Center. Josh Wise's 18 points and Drew Magestro's 17 points led six Mountain Cats who scored in double figures and helped Pitt-Johnstown improve to 17-4 overall and 11-3 in the PSAC West.
 
Wise shot 8-10 from the field and 2-2 from 2-point range for his 18 points, while Magestro shot 6-9, including 5-8 from behind the arc for his 17 points.  John Paul Kromka had a double-double of 14 points and 13 rebounds, and Fred Mulbah scored 13 points and dished out a career-high 12 assists.  The Mountain Cats also got 12 points from Caiden Landis, 10 points from Donovian Maxfield, and nine points from Jared Jakubick.
 
Magestro, DrewJoe Batt's 3-pointer capped a 12-2 first half run that put the Mountain Cats up 20-14, but Mansfield battled back to knot it at 29 on two Eli Alvin free-throws at 6:07.
 
Pitt-Johnstown, which is receiving votes in the NABC National Poll, rebuilt the lead to eight on two free-throws from Mulbah and took a 47-41 lead into the half on Landis' bucket as time expired.
 
However, it was all Mountain Cats in the second half.  Pitt-Johnstown shot 62.2% from the field and went 7-for-13 from 3-point range to break it open.
 
After Taylor Sweeney's 3-pointer to open the second half narrowed Mansfield deficit to three, Pitt-Johnstown answered with a 24-8 run over the next seven minutes to Kromka, John Paulextend the lead to 19 on Landis' layup.
 
Magestro and Maxfield each hit a pair of 3-pointers, and Jakubick added on to push the lead out to 100-60 with 5:31 to play, before Jakubick's free-throws at 4:38 gave Pitt-Johnstown its largest lead of the night at 42.
 
The Mountain Cats turned 18 Mansfield turnovers into a 34-4 advantage in points off of turnovers and held a 14-point advantage in bench scoring.
 
Pitt-Johnstown shot 54.2% (39-72) from the field, 14-27 from behind the arc and 15-21 from the line.  Mansfield shot 41.3% (26-63), but just 7-22 from 3-point range.  Mulbah, FredThe Mounties were also 10-15 from the charity stripe.
 
Trevor English posted game-highs of 26 points and 18 rebounds, and Jaz Farrell scored 10 points for Mansfield, which fell to 5-14 overall and 4-10 in the PSAC East.
 
Pitt-Johnstown travels to Gannon for a conference game on Saturday, before returning home to host PSAC doubleheaders with the women against California (PA) on Wednesday and Edinboro for Alumni Day on February 8.
