No. 7 IUP Holds Off Late Mountain Cat Surge in Regular Season Finale

Wise, JoshSeventh-ranked IUP climbed out to a 14-point halftime lead, then held off a Pitt-Johnstown comeback in 93-82 victory over the Mountain Cats to close out the regular season at the Kovalchick Center in Indiana.  Josh Wise scored 16 points to lead three Pitt-Johnstown double figure scorers.  The Mountain Cats enter Monday's PSAC Tournament at 21-8 overall and 15-7 in the PSAC West.
 
Pitt-Johnstown earned the No. 3 seed in the PSAC Western Division and will host sixth-seeded Slippery Rock in Monday's opening round of the conference tournament at 7 p.m. in the Sports Center.
 
Fred Mulbah scored 14 points and dished out a game-high 10 assists and Drew Magestro added 11 points for Pitt-Johnstown.  The Mountain Cats also got eight Mulbah, Fredpoints and a game-high 10 rebounds from John Paul Kromka and nine points and a career-high nine rebounds from Joe Batt.
 
The Crimson Hawks opened-up a 24-12 lead 11 minutes into the opening half on a Malik Miller 3-pointer and an Ethan Porterfield layup.
 
Kromka's dunk followed by a Donovian Maxfield bucket cut the Mountain Cats' it to seven, before Marcin Wiszomirski scored in the paint at 5:07 to make it 29-23.
 
IUP got it lead back out to 12 with 2:16 left, then got a putback from Dave Thomas to take a 44-30 lead into the half.
 
Magestro, DrewFour straight Crimson Hawks points to begin the second half increased the lead to 18.
 
IUP then made it a 21-point lead with just under six minutes to go, before a Joe Batt 3-pointer and a pair from behind the arc from Maxfield at 1:19 narrowed it to 87-78.
 
Batt's layup on the Mountain Cats' next possession made it an eight-point game but that was as close as Pitt-Johnstown could get.
 
Pitt-Johnstown shot 46% (31-67) and 9-24 from 3-point range, while IUP shot 47% (31-66) and 8-22 from behind the arc.  However, the Mountain Cats only shot 13 free-throws and made 11, while IUP connected on 23-34 from the line.
 
Armoni Foster scored a game-high 25 points, Miller had 22 points, and Morris had 14 points and eight rebounds for the Crimson Hawks, now 25-2 overall and 20-2 in the PSAC West.
