Olivia Porter went 2-for 4, but Minnesota State-Mankato used a four-run fourth inning to break open a one-run game in a 6-1 victory over the Pitt-Johnstown softball team, Wednesday afternoon in Florida. The Mountain Cats are now 3-3.
The Mavericks took a 2-0 lead in the top of the third inning, before Pitt-Johnstown cut it to one in their half of the frame. Porter and
Ali Belgiovane each singled with one out. Porter moved to third on an error, then scored on another Minnesota State-Mankato error.
However, the Mavericks answered with four in the fourth, highlighted by Carly Esselman's three-run homer, that made it 6-1.
Porter had two hits, while
Lauren Gohacki and Belgiovane each had a base hits for Pitt-Johnstown.
Kristie Radvan took the loss and slipped to 0-1 after allowing six runs (3 earned) in a complete-game effort. Radvan struck out two and walked one.
Pitt-Johnstown closes out its Spring Trip to Florida with games against Wayne State (Neb.) and Hillsdale (Mich.) on Thursday and Lake Erie (Ohio) and St. Thomas Aquinas (NY) on Friday.
