Pitt-Johnstown built an 8-0 lead behind
Jade Stubblefield's three RBI and
Colebe Oliver's solo home run on its way to an 8-1 victory over Wayne State (Neb.) College, in Thursday's opener in Florida.
Â
The Mountain Cats, 4-3 to start the season, struck for a pair of runs in the top of the first.Â
Olivia Porter led off the game with a double and moved to third on
Ali Belgiovane's base hit. Stubblefield's infield single plated Porter and Belgiovane scored on a Wayne State error.
Â
Oliver's solo homer in the third increased it to 3-0, before Pitt-Johnstown added two more runs in the fifth. Oliver walked, then moved up two bases when
Taylor Mendicino reached on another error. A double steal allowed Oliver to score from third, before
Laura Fox's sacrifice fly plated Mendicino.
Â

In the Mountain Cat seventh,
Carly Santillo led off with a walk.Â
Bree Ginther came in as a pinch runner. Fox walked and Porter's ground out advanced Ginther and Fox up a base. After Belgivane drew the third walk of the inning to load the bases, Stubblefield singled home Ginther and Fox, and Belgiovane came around to score on a Wayne State bobble to push the lead out to 8-0.
Â
Wayne State came back with a run in the bottom of the seventh, but that was as close as it would get.
Â
Alyssa Hileman got it done in the circle holding Wayne State to two runs while fanning two in the complete-game.
Â
Stubblefield went 2-for-3 with three RBI, and Oliver homered and scored two runs for Pitt-Johnstown. Porter doubled and scored a run, Belgiovane singled and scored two runs, and Santillo collected a base hit.
