The Pitt-Johnstown softball team got seven strong innings in the circle from
Alyssa Hileman and used a four-run sixth inning to improve to 2-0 with a 4-1 victory over Nyack (NY) College, Sunday evening in Clermont, Fla.
Hileman allowed just one run and scattered three hits in the complete-game win. She also struck out six and walked one.
The Mountain Cats broke a scoreless game with four runs in the top of the fourth.
Kristie Radvan walked and
Bree Ginther entered the game as a pinch runner. A
Stacey Walling sacrifice bunt moved Ginther to second.
Cassidy Kern followed with an RBI single and moved to second on the throw and to third on
Taylor Mendicino's base hit. Mendicino then stole second, and both Kern and Mendicino came around to score when
Maddie Flowers' ground ball was misplayed by Nyack.
Nyack added a run in the bottom of the seventh, but it wasn't nearly enough.
Olivia Porter had a hit and an RBI, while Kern singled, drove in a run, and scored a run for Pitt-Johnstown. Mendicino singled and scored,
Ali Belgiovane had a hit, and
Colebe Oliver drew a pair of walks.
Pitt-Johnstown continues its Spring Trip to Florida with games against Post (CT) and Stonehill (MA) on Monday and American International (MA) and Minnesota State-Mankato on Wednesday.
