Men's Soccer Earns 3-3 Draw With #16 Gannon in 2021 Home Finale

Kuhn_Chase.JPGThe Mountain Cat men's soccer team made the 2021 home finale a memorable one.  Pitt-Johnstown held off a late charge from 16th-ranked Gannon and held on for a 3-3 double overtime, PSAC West draw with the Golden Knights.  Chase Kuhn had a goal and an assist for Pitt-Johnstown, now 1-10-2 overall and 0-6-1 in the PSAC West.

Gannon opened the scoring in the 21st minute when Joe Knox scored off of a Herman Aanberg pass. Gannon followed that up with a 31st minute Peter Wagner goal off of Bek Nurlanbek first assist of the match to give the Golden Knights a 2-0 advantage.
 
The Mountain Cats cut the Gannon lead in half Kuhn converted a penalty kick in the 59th minute to start a stretch of three Pitt-Johnstown goals in a span of four minutes. Kuhn's contribution did not stop there as he assisted on a Josh Sollars' goal in the next minute to tie things up at two apiece. The Mountain Cats tacked on a third goal in four minutes when Andrew Jeffery scored off a pass from Rafael Berhanu.

The Mountain Cats held strong until Gannon's Sergio Del Castillo netted the tying goal in the 78th minute off of Nurlanbek's second assist.

Derksen_P_J_.JPGNeither team was able to break the tie through the final minutes of the regulation forcing the contest to go into overtime.

Both teams created multiple chances throughout both overtime periods but neither team was able to convert a game winning score.  
 
PJ Derksen went the distance in goal for the Mountain Cats. He faced 32 shots and made 10 saves throughout the 90 minutes and both overtime periods.
 
David Syntelien was in goal for Gannon. He saw 6 shots and made 1 save.
 
The Golden Knights who went into the game ranked 16th in the nation move to 12-1-2 on the season and 5-0-2 in the PSAC. The Mountain Cats are now 1-10-2 and 0-6-1 in the PSAC. 
 
Pitt-Johnstown finishes off their season with three straight away conference contests. The first being against California University (PA) at 1:00 PM on Saturday, October 30th. The second is when the Mountain Cats travel to Slippery Rock to face The Rock on Wednesday, November 3rd at 1:00 PM. The Mountain Cats conclude the 2021 season at Seton Hill University at 2:00 PM on Saturday, November 6th. The Pitt-Johnstown Men's Soccer players and coaching staff would like to thank all of those who came out to support the team at home throughout the season.
