The Pitt-Johnstown men's basketball team didn't have an answer for Shippensburg University's hot shooting Saturday afternoon at the Sports Center.
The Raiders shot nearly 44.8 percent from behind the arc, hitting 13 of 29 attempts overall, on their way to a 76-62 PSAC victory over the Mountain Cats in a crossover game.
Pitt-Johnstown's first conference loss snapped a three-game winning streak and dropped them to 7-3 overall, 3-1 in the league. Shippensburg (6-3, 3-1 PSAC) claimed its fourth consecutive victory.
Pitt-Johnstown, which shot just 34.8 percent (8 of 23) from 3-point range, was led by 6-foot-7 forward John Paul Kromka, who netted 16 points.Â
Guard Joe Batt had 11 points, guard Ryan Smith 10 points and guard Fred Mulbah added eight points, seven assists and six rebounds. Pitt-Johnstown shot 41.8 percent (23 of 55) from the floor overall.
Shippensburg led by as many as 20 points in the second half, when it shot 65.38Â percent (17 of 26) from the field and 60 percent (6 of 10) from 3-point range.Â
Guard Jake Biss led the way with a game-high 20 points for the Raiders, hitting 5 of 8 3-pointers. Guard/forward Carlos Carter had 17 points, hitting 7 of 11 shots from the field including a pair of 3-pointers.Â
Dom Sleva, a 6-6 forward, had 14 points (4 of 6 behind the arc) and a game-high 15 rebounds, and guard/forward Rashon Johnson contributed 12 points as the Raiders shot 46 percent from the floor overall, making 29 of 63 attempts.
Smith's 3-pointer eight minutes into the first half had gave the Mountain Cats their biggest lead at 17-10.Â
The Raiders eventually went back on top, 21-19, as Biss hit a 3-pointer at the 6:56 mark of the opening half. Shippensburg stretched its lead to 32-24 lead at the intermission.Â
Coach Bob Rukavina's Mountain Cats return to PSAC play Sunday with a 3 p.m. crossover game against Lock Haven at the Sports Center. The women tip-off at 1 p.m.
