Stacey Walling had four hits and drove in four, and
Jade Stubblefield added four hits and two RBI, but California (PA) took game one of a PSAC doubleheader from Pitt-Johnstown, 5-1, before erasing an early six-run deficit to finish the sweep with a 10-8 victory in game two. The Mountain Cats are now 8-24 overall and 7-19 in the PSAC Western Division.
In game one in California, the Vulcans opened up a 4-0 lead after four innings and went on to the 5-1 victory.
Brooke Wilson's two-out, two-run homer to left field in the bottom of the third inning put Cal U on top, before the Vulcans put runners on second and third with a walk and a Brittney Wilson double in the fourth. Shayna Postler followed with a double to left field to bring home pinch runner Kaitlyn Corle and Wilson to increase it to 4-0.

After Cal U made it 5-1 with a run in the bottom of the sixth, Pitt-Johnstown closed out the scoring with a run in the top of the seventh. Stubblefield singled and advanced to third on
Carly Santillo's base hit, before
Tori Radvan's sacrifice fly scored Stubblefield.
Stubblefield went 2-for-2 with a triple and a run, while,
Maddie Flowers, Walling and Santillo all had hits for the Mountain Cats.
Alyssa Hileman dropped to 3-7 after allowing five runs on six hits in six innings. Hileman struck out three and walked one.
Ellie Lobdell pitched the first 6.1 innings and held Pitt-Johnstown to a run on five hits to improve to 5-1. Kaitlyn Leary came in and got the final two outs to preserve the win.
Postler had two hits, including a double, and three RBI, and Brooke Wilson hit a two-run homer for the Vulcans.
In game two, The Mountain Cats sent 10 hitters to the plate in the top of the first and came away with six runs, but Cal U battled back and scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth to complete the sweep with the 10-8 win.
Pitt-Johnstown loaded the bases with two outs in the top of the first off of Vulcans' starter Kelsey Barron. Stubblefield singled to short, and Santillo and Radvan walked ahead of Walling's three-run double to the gap in right-center. Walling advanced to third on a wild pitch from reliever Kailtyn Leary and scored on
Ali Belgiovane's pop-up that was misplayed by Cal U, before Flowers' double to left drove home
Bree Ginther, who walked, and Belgiovane to make it 6-0.
The Vulcans got two runs back in the bottom of the first on an RBI double from Charity Henderson and a run-scoring single from Brittney Wilson, and three more in the second, including RBI singles by Henderson and Brittney Wilson, that cut it to 6-5.
A Pitt-Johnstown fielding error allowed Mackenzie Carson to score from second to tie it in the bottom of the third, but the Mountain Cats regained the lead, 8-6, in the fourth on Stubblefield's two out single that plated Flowers and
Olivia Porter.
An unearned run in the Cal U half of the fifth made it a one-run game, before the Vulcans went on top 10-8 with three runs in the bottom of the sixth. Henderson's solo homer to lead off the inning knotted it, and Jordan Pinneri's RBI single put Cal U in front. The Vulcans then got a sacrifice fly from Alexa Pastor that increased it to 10-8.
The Mountain Cats put runners on first and second with two outs in the top of the seventh, but Lobdell, who pitched the final three innings in relief, was able to get the final out and secure her second win of the day.
Walling was 3-for-4 with a double and three RBI, while Stubblefield had two hits and drove in a pair, and Flowers doubled and had two RBI for Pitt-Johnstown. Belgiovane added a double, and Mendicino singled.
Kayla Miehl (0-1) suffered the loss in relief of starter
Ashley Pagliei. Miehl surrendered four runs on six hits over the final three innings. Pagliei pitched the first three innings and allowed six runs (5 earned) on nine hits in three innings.
Henderson had three hits, including a homerun, and three RBI, and Brittney Wilson collected three hits and three RBI for the Vulcans, who improved to 15-5 overall and 15-5 in the PSAC West.
Pitt-Johnstown travels to Gannon on Thursday for a PSAC doubleheader, before returning home to close out the 2021 season with conference doubleheaders against the Golden Knights on Friday at 2:30 p.m. and California (PA) on Sunday at 1 p.m. at V.E. Erickson Complex.
