
Four Mountain Cats finished with nine or more kills, including
Lualis Alvarado and
Lauren Gechter who had 14 and 13 kills, respectively, to guide the Pitt-Johnstown volleyball team to a 3-sets-to-1 victory over the hosts in Friday night's Second Round of the East Stroudsburg University Invitational. The Mountain Cats improved to 3-1.
After Pitt-Johnstown took the opening two sets 25-14 and 25-17, the Warriors forced a third set with a 25-21 victory. However, the Mountain Cats jumped out to a 12-6 lead in the fourth set, before scoring nine straight points to break it open and close out the match with a 25-11 win.
Alvarado added 17 digs to go along with her match-high 14 kills and Gechter had 13 kills for Pitt-Johnstown. The Mountain Cats also got nine kills and 12 digs from
Grace Miller and nine kills from
Cassie Pascarella.
Adiamar Beaz led everyone with a career-high 44 set assists to go along with 10 digs.
Erin Carmody (20 digs) and
Lexi Pendergraft (11 digs) combined for 31 digs, and
Katelyn Courtney had three kills and three blocks.
East Stroudsburg, which fell to 1-5 to begin the season, was led by Kaylee LoPresto's 13 kills and 11 digs and Ali Finch's seven kills and 11 digs.
The Mountain Cats close out the East Stroudsburg Tournament on Saturday with matches against Saint Anselm (NH) and Caldwell (NJ) then travel to a Tri-Match at Frostburg State (MD) on September 18. Pitt-Johnstown will make its 2021 home debut with a PSAC Western Division match against Mercyhurst on September 25 at 1 p.m. in the Sports Center.
