Mercyhurst University scored two first-half goals to build a 2-0 halftime lead on their way to a 6-0 PSAC Western Division win over the Pitt-Johnstown women's soccer team on Wednesday afternoon. With the loss, the Mountain Cats dropped to 4-6-3 overall on the year, and 4-5-2 in conference play.
Taryn Baxter and Karah Van Horn scored in the 18th and 39th minutes, respectively, to give the Lakers a 2-0 advantage at the break.Â
Baxter would score another goal early in the second half to expand the lead to 3-0, and Mercyhurst added three more goals throughout the second half to set the final score at 6-0.
Sachi Negri started in the net for the Mountain Cats and played the first 78 minutes, making six saves on 13 shots faced. Megan Giesey made her season debut and played the final 12 minutes at goalkeeper, facing two shots while making a save.
Maddie Elbro earned the shutout in the net for the Lakers, making two saves.
With the win, Mercyhurst improved to 8-2-4 overall on the season, and 7-1-4 in PSAC West play.Â
The Pitt-Johnstown women's soccer team will return home to face Slippery Rock on Saturday, October 12 at 12:00 p.m. at the Pitt-Johnstown Soccer Field.
