Slippery Rock Takes Down Mountain Cats Women's Soccer in PSAC West Match

Negri_Sachi.jpgMorgan Kost's early goal got the Pitt-Johnstown women's soccer team on the board, but a pair of goals from Slippery Rock's Ashley Rea allowed the Rock to take down the Mountain Cats, 3-1, in a PSAC Western Division Matchup. With the loss, Pitt-Johnstown fell to 4-7-3 on the year, and 4-6-2 in conference play.

Kost opened up the scoring by giving the Mountain Cats a 1-0 lead in the 21st minute, taking a pass from Emily Esser and beating Slippery Rock goalie Emma Yoder in the top left corner of the net.

Slippery Rock tied the match at one apiece with Ashley Rea's first goal in the 38th minute, and she scored again in the 53rd minute to give the Rock a 2-1 lead. Olivia Yoder would add another goal in the 60th minute to set the final score at 3-1.

Sachi Negri and Megan Giesey each saw time in goal for the Mountain Cats. Negri played the first 72 minutes, while Giesey closed out the game by playing the final 18. The two combined to face 29 shots from Slippery Rock, with Negri making 11 saves and Giesey making two.

Slippery Rock improved to 5-2-8 overall and 4-2-7 in PSAC West play with the victory. 

The Pitt-Johnstown women's soccer team will remain at home to take on Clarion on Wednesday, October 19 at 4:00 p.m. at the Pitt-Johnstown Soccer Field.
