Second-ranked Mercyhurst jumped out to an early lead in the first half on their way to a 10-0 PSAC Western Division victory over the Pitt-Johnstown men's soccer team on Saturday afternoon. The Mountain Cats dropped to 1-10-2 overall this season, and 0-7-1 in PSAC West play.
Mercyhurst's Sean Kerrigan and Frank Lovett each scored a pair of goals to help the Lakers build a 5-0 halftime lead, and Riley Kutschbach's three second-half goals allowed Mercyhurst to seal the victory.
PJ Derksen and Jacob Tichnell each saw time in goal for Pitt-Johnstown, with the pair combining to face 21 shots from the Lakers. Tichnell made three saves, while Derksen made two.
Mercyhurst's Jonathan Gomes played the first 83 minutes at goalie while Ethan Kinyo closed out the final seven minutes. Gomes made four saves.
With the win, Mercyhurst remained undefeated and improved to 15-0-1 overall and 8-0 in conference play.Â
The Pitt-Johnstown men's soccer team will return to Johnstown to take on California (PA) University in their final home game of the year on Wednesday, October 26th at 4:00 p.m.
