Penn State New Kensington Scores Late to Down Men's Soccer

Sollars_Josh.jpgJosh Sollars' score in the 12th minute gave the Mountain Cats an early lead, but a last-second goal by Penn State New Kensington's Jacob Guerrini lifted the Nittany Lions over the Mountain Cats for a 2-1 victory in Johnstown. The Pitt-Johnstown men's soccer team fell to 1-7-1 on the year with the loss.

Sollars earned the first points in the 12th minute, scoring off a pass from Evan Ulrich to give the Mountain Cats an early 1-0 lead. Pitt-Johnstown held that lead all the way into the 64th minute, when Jordan Cooper tied it at 1 for Penn State New Kensington on a penalty kick.

The match remained scoreless until the 89th minute, when Guerrini hit the low right corner of the net for the game-winning goal with 1:12 left.

Pitt-Johnstown goalkeeper PJ Derksen faced 21 shots, made nine saves and allowed two goals during the loss. On the other side, Andrew Haus faced 15 shots, made four saves and allowed a goal.

With the win, Penn State New Kensington improved to 7-2 on the year. 

The Mountain Cats will travel to California, PA on Saturday to face the California (PA) men's soccer team at 1:00 p.m.
