California (PA) Earns Narrow Conference Win Over Pitt-Johnstown Men's Soccer

Derksen_PJ.jpgCalifornia (PA) took an early first-half lead and held the rest of the way for a 1-0 PSAC Western Division victory over Pitt-Johnstown on Saturday afternoon. The Mountain Cats dropped to 1-8-1 overall on the season and 0-5 in conference play.

Jake Nebinski scored the match's lone goal for the Vulcans in the 23rd minute, hitting the top of the net for the 1-0 lead.

Pitt-Johnstown goalkeeper PJ Derksen faced 13 shots from California (PA), making five saves and allowing one goal.

Payton Smith earned the shutout in the net for the Vulcans. Smith faced five shots from the Mountain Cats, led by two from Adan Cabrera-Perez, and made three saves.

California (PA) improved to 3-6-1 overall and 1-4 in conference play with the win.

The Mountain Cats will return home to face Seton Hill on Wednesday, October 12 at 4 p.m. at the Pitt-Johnstown Soccer Field.
