California (PA) made a pair of first half goals stand up in a 2-1 PSAC Western Division victory over the Pitt-Johnstown women's soccer team, Saturday afternoon in California.  Emily Esser netted her fourth foal of the season for the Mountain Cats, now 4-5-3 overall and 4-4-2 in conference action.
 
California (PA) got off to a fast start and took a 1-0 lead seven minutes into the match when Juliana Cruz finished a loose ball in front of the net, before Kaylee Elwood's penalty kick 14 minutes later gave the Vulcans a 2-0 advantage at the half.
 
It remained that way until Esser got the Mountain Cats on the scoreboard with 16 seconds remaining off Alexis Johnson's assist from midfield to set the final at 2-1.
 
Pitt-Johnstown's Sachi Negri saw seven California (PA) shots, made a pair of save, and allowed both goals, while Emily Ouimet picked up the win in net for the Vulcans.  Ouimet faced 11 Mountain Cat shots, made seven saves and surrendered one goal.
 
With the win, California (PA) evened the season series with Pitt-Johnstown at 1-1 and improved to 4-5-2 overall and 4-4-2 in the PSAC West.
 
Pitt-Johnstown travels to Mercyhurst on Saturday for a PSAC West match, before returning home to host Slippery Rock on Saturday as part of a conference doubleheader with the Mountain Cat men's team.  The women will kick off at noon at the Pitt-Johnstown Soccer Field, with the men's game scheduled for 2:30 p.m.
