Women’s Basketball to Make 2022-23 Home Debut, Tuesday Evening Against Salem

      After opening the season with three straight road games, the Pitt-Johnstown women's basketball team will make its 2022-23 home debut when Salem (WV) University visits the Sports Center for a non-conference game on Tuesday.  Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m.
 
 Head Coach Mike Drahos' Pitt-Johnstown Mountain Cats, 2-1 to begin the season, will make their 2022-23 home debut against the Salem Tigers on Tuesday.  Pitt-Johnstown opened the season with victories over Frostburg State (MD) and Alderson Broaddus (WV) at the Frostburg State Jim Crawley Conference Challenge on Nov. 11 and 12, before suffering a 96-56 loss at Malone (OH) on Saturday.  Ashley Norling scored a team-high 15 points and grabbed four rebounds, while Olivia Fasick and Cassidy Crawford each added 10 points to lead the Mountain Cats against the Pioneers.  Pitt-Johnstown also got eight points from Kylah Franklin.
 
            Salem, under Head Coach Jessica Peatross, opened the year with a pair of losses, but rebounded to even its record at 2-2 with two straight victories.  On Wednesday, the Tigers earned a 94-67 win at Alderson Broaddus, before holding off Saint Augustine's (NC), 70-68, on Sunday.  Elena Pericic tallied 19 points, while Emerson Wells and Anna Machytkova chipped-in 16 and 13 points, respectively.  Nerea Arambarri Fernandez and Anete Bluma each pulled down 11 rebounds for Salem.
 
            Pitt-Johnstown holds an 11-3 advantage over Salem since the 2004 season.  After the Mountain Cats secured a 97-65 victory in the Sports Center on Dec. 4, 2019, the Tigers came back with a 71-66 win in Salem, W.Va. on Dec. 11, 2021.  Makalyn Clapper's game-high 19 points paced four Pitt-Johnstown players who scored in double figures, while Molly Wagoner grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds.  Daniela Quesada scored 12 points, and Aleena Mongerie and Kalyne Daniels each tallied 11 points to lead Salem.
 
    Pitt-Johnstown will break for Thanksgiving, then travel to West Virginia State for a non-conference game on Monday, before starting PSAC Crossover-play with games at Bloomsburg on Dec. 2 and East Stroudsburg on Dec. 3.  The Mountain Cats will return home on Dec. 13 to host a non-conference game against defending NCAA Division II National Champion Glenville State (WV).
