Peyton Alazaus dropped a game-high 16 points, Ashley Norling added 13 points and the Mountain Cats erased an 11-point halftime deficit to come from behind and beat Bloomsburg 54-50 on Friday night at Nelson Field House.
Olivia Fasick provided 10 points, four rebounds and three assists for Pitt-Johnstown, which improved to 4-2 with its first PSAC win of the season. Hayden Taylor chipped in eight points. Norling and Makalyn Clapper had four rebounds apiece.
Despite trailing for three and a half quarters, the Mountain Cats took the lead for good with 3:54 remaining in the fourth after Norling connected on a pair of free throws to make it 47-46. Those free throws were part of a game-changing 9-0 run that concluded with an Alazaus free throw to give Pitt-Johnstown a 50-46 lead with just 1:44 left.
Back-to-back makes at the charity stripe by Fasick with seven seconds left secured the victory.
Pitt-Johnstown overcame a less than desirable shooting night by going 18 of 24 from the free throw line, including hitting 9 of 10 down the stretch in the fourth. The Mountain Cats also turned 21 turnovers by the Huskies into 18 points.
Both teams struggled from the floor in the first, leading to Bloomsburg holding a 12-5 lead after one. That trend continued for much of the second and Pitt-Johnstown went into the break down 27-16.
But the Mountain Cats bounced back in the third, shooting 7 of 14 from the field, including 3 of 7 from deep, to outscore the Huskies 20-10.
Alazaus drilled a 3-pointer with 16 seconds left in the third to put the Mountain Cats within a point at 37-36 heading into the fourth.
Hailey Hudak scored a team-high 10 points for the Huskies (2-2).
The Mountain Cats are back on the road on Saturday with a matchup against PSAC East foe East Stroudsburg set for 5:30 p.m.
