The start to the 2022-2023 indoor track and field season was quite impressive for the Mountain Cats. Athletes for Pitt-Johnstown traveled to Youngstown, Ohio to compete in the Youngstown (OH) University Icebreaker Meet.
On the Women's side, Abbey-Gale Brooks and Kate Yahner both qualified for the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championships. Yahner finished on top in pole vault with a top mark of 3.35-meters. Brooks earned a 14th place finish in the 60-meter as well as a 19th place finish in the 200-meter. Her times were 8.06 seconds and 26.10 seconds, respectively. Brooks was also part of the 4x400-meter relay team that also featured Mayah Charity, Ava Barker, and Alexandra Walton.
On the Men's side, Jake Mann, Chris Colligan, and Clay Engle all hit qualifying marks for the PSAC Championships. Mann and Colligan both qualified in the high jump with top marks of 1.85-meters and 1.9 meters respectively. Engle jumped 13.84 meters in the triple jump to qualify for the conference meet and round out an inspired performance for the Mountain Cats.
Head Track and Field and Cross Country coach Nick Ramirez had this to say about the meet:
"We had Abbey-Gale Brooks, Kate Yahner, Jake Mann, Chris Colligan, and Clay Engle all qualify for the conference met and probably a dozen other athletes who were very close to hitting qualifying marks. It was a decent start to the season and should give us momentum heading into Susquehanna next weekend."
