No. 6 Wrestlers Stay Unbeaten with 25-9 Victory at #17 Ashland

0The No.-6-ranked Pitt-Johnstown wrestlers jumped out to a 16-3 lead midway through the match, then took advantage of 11th-ranked Dillon Keane's 7-1 win over No. 3 Drew Wiechers at 165 lbs., to hand 17th-ranked Ashland (OH) a 25-9 loss, Friday night in Ashland, OH.  The Mountain Cats remained unbeaten and improved to 6-0.
 
Trevon Gray got the Mountain Cats off and running at 125 lbs. with a 4-1 decision over Tyler Masters, before Byron Daubert built a 10-0 lead after one period on Jeremiah McKee at 133 lbs. on his way to a 16-0 technical fall at 3:53 that Pitt-Johnstown on top, 8-0.
 
Ashland got on the scoreboard with Gavin Weaver's 7-0 upset decision win over Pitt-Johnstown's ninth-ranked Caleb Morris in the 141-lb bout
 
The Mountain Cats quickly responded when Jacob Ealy, the top-ranked wrestler in the country at 149 lbs., secured a 15-0 technical fall at 4:36 over Evan Davis, and second-ranked Nate Smith returned to the lineup with a 6-1 decision over Nick Carbone at 157 lbs. to make it 16-3.
 
Pitt-Johnstown kept it going with a big win at 165 lbs.  11th-ranked Dillon Keane climbed out top a 6-1 lead after two periods on third-ranked Drew Wiechers and used a point for riding time to earn a convincing, 7-1, decision.
 
The Mountain Cats secured the win at 174 lbs.  Alex Weber handed Corbin May a 9-2 setback that make it 22-3 with just three bouts remaining.
 
The Eagles got a 10-7 decision from No. 8 Daniel Beemer at 184 lbs. over No. 11 Brock Biddle, and a 3-2 TB 1 decision from No. 8 Walker Uhl over Dakoda Rodgers at 197 lbs. to cut it to 22-9.
 
The Mountain Cats closed it out with a win from seventh ranked Isaiah Vance in the 285-lb. bout.  Vance shutout Ty Petry 4-0 to set the final at 25-9.
 
With the loss, Ashland fell to 4-3 on the season.
 
The Mountain Cats visit Findlay (OH) on Saturday then travel to the Midwest Classic in Indianapolis on Dec. 17-18.  Pitt-Johnstown will return home match on Jan. 18 to host Gannon for a PSAC Match in the Sports Center.
