Mountain Cats Outslug Bloomsburg, 17-11, in 2022 Non-Conference Finale

Bloomsburg, PA

Broderick_Dylan.jpgDylan Broderick belted a grand slam and drove in five, and Tyler Smith had three hits and a pair of RBI to help the Pitt-Johnstown baseball team close out its 2022 non-conference schedule with a 17-11 victory at Bloomsburg on Tuesday.  The Mountain Cats, who also defeated the Huskie earlier this season, are now 19-24-1.

Pitt-Johnstown opened the scoring with a run in the top of the second.  With two outs, Smith singled up the middle, Josh Ulery walked, and Jake Ansell followed with a base hit to right that scored Smith.

After Bloomsburg quickly tied it in the bottom of the second off of Pitt-Johnstown starter Brady Walker, the Mountain Cats used RBI doubles from Broderick and Garrett Prosper and Smith's run scoring single to go on top 4-1.

Luke Schrock entered the game in the bottom of the third and allowed a two-run double to Adam Gates that cut the lead to 4-3, but Pitt-Johnstown got a run back in the fourth, then Smith_Tyler.jpgadded five more in the fifth, including Broderick's two-out grand slam to center, that increased the lead to 10-3.

Bloomsburg cut the deficit to 10-7 with three runs in the sixth and one in the seventh.

However, Ansell and Colin Pasone each delivered two-run singles in the Pitt-Johnstown half of the eighth to get the lead out to 14-7 and the Mountain CAts went on to the victory.

Broderick's three-hit, five RBI performance and Smith's three-hit, two RBI performance led Pitt-Johnstown.  Ansell had two hits and drove in three, while Noah Donis had two hits and an RBI, Mario Disso collected two hits, and Pasone had two RBI.

Walker was credited with the win after giving up one run on two hits, while striking out three and walking one over the first two innings.

Ansel_Jake.jpgBen Newbert hit a two-run home run and drove in three, and Jonathan Labarbera added a solo homer for the Huskies, now 22-19-1.
