The Pitt-Johnstown baseball team gave PSAC West leading Gannon everything it could handle in Friday's Senior Day doubleheader at Point Stadium. Freshman right-hander
Rodney Shultz pitched a complete-game and allowed just two runs on four hits, but suffered a tough 2-1 loss in the opener. In game two, the Golden Knights broke a 3-3 tie in the sixth and went on to complete the sweep with a 5-3 victory. The Mountain Cats are now 19-26-1 overall and 6-20 in conference-play.

Tyler Smith, and
Brady Walker.
In game one, Brandon Wetherholt's sacrifice fly in the top of the first gave Gannon an early lead, but Pitt-Johnstown answered with a run in the bottom of the frame.
Mario Disso doubled down the left field line and scored on
Dylan Broderick's triple to the gap in right center.
Jorge Mejia's RBI ground out in the fourth gave the lead back to the Golden Knights, and Gannon's Deven Judy made that lead hold up in the 2-1 victory.
Judy outdueled Pitt-Johnstown's Shultz. Judy allowed one run on six hits, while striking out seven and walking two on his way to improving to 6-1. Shultz, who slipped to 2-5, gave up just two runs and limited the Golden Knights to just our hits. Shultz fanned two and walked one.
Disso went 2-for-4 with a double, while Broderick tripled and drove in Pitt-Johnstown's run.
Jake Ansell doubled, and
Tyler Smith and
Colin Pasone each had base hits.
In the nightcap, Gannon jumped out to a 3-0 first inning lead on Mountain Cat starter
Seth Shuey.
Back-to-back singles from
Lennox Pugh and
Justin Turcovski to start the inning and Ansell's two run double, followed by an RBI single in the Pitt-Johnstown second tied it at three.
The Golden Knights regained the lead with a run in the sixth on Jared Bielanin's single to right center that scored Mejia and chased Pitt-Johnstown starter
Seth Shuey.
Cameron Vozel made it 5-3 with a solo homer off of
Taylor Squiric in the top of the seventh, and Gannon held on for the 5-3 win.
Pugh had two hits, including a double, Ansell drove in a pair, and Pasone had a hit and an RBI for the Mountain Cats.
Shuey suffered the loss after surrendering four runs on six hits over the first 5.1 innings. Squiric gave up a run on two hits over the final 1.2 innings.
Gannon's Eric Sapp improved to 9-0 after holding Pitt-Johnstown to three runs on six hits in six innings. Joseph Reitebach picked up his fourth save of the season after tossing a scoreless seventh for the Golden Knights, now 28-13 overall and 19-6 in the PSAC West.
Pitt-Johnstown will conclude the PSAC West series with Gannon and close out the 2022 season with a doubleheader on Sunday beginning at 1 p.m. at Point Stadium.
