Lualis Alvarado collected a team-high eight kills and two solo blocks, but Walsh (OH) University got off to a fast start and claimed a three-set victory over the Pitt-Johnstown volleyball team in Friday's 2022 season-opener at the Fairmont State (WV) Tournament.

After taking the first two sets 25-10 and 25-13, the Cavaliers closed out the match with a 25-18 win.

Along with Alvarado, freshman
Mallory Pinske had four kills and a pair of blocks in her collegiate debut, and
Elizah Wilson added three kills for the Mountain Cats.

Adiamar Beaz paced Pitt-Johnstown with 13 set assists and five digs, while
Gabi DeRenzo had a team-high seven digs, and
Isabella Gomez chipped-in five digs.

Walsh, which improved to 2-0, was led by Keanna Avery's match-high 11 kills.

The Mountain Cats close out the Fairmont State Tournament with matches against the host school and Salem (WV) on Saturday, before traveling to Wayne State (MI) Tournament next weekend. Pitt-Johnstown will make its home debut with a non-conference match against Salem on September 13 at 6 p.m. in the Sports Center.
