Mountain Cats Cruise in Sweep Over Salem to End Fairmont State Tournament

Alvarado_Lualis.jpgPinske_Mallory.jpgAfter suffering a pair of losses to open the season at the Fairmont State (WV) University Volleyball Tournament, Pitt-Johnstown bounced back behind Lualis Alvarado's match-high 10 kills and 11 digs kills to sweep Salem (WV) University in Saturday's final round.  The Mountain Cats are now 1-2.
 
Pitt-Johnstown opened with 25-16, 25-14 wins, before erasing an early third-set deficit to complete the sweep with a 25-16 victory.
 
Alvarado's 10 kills and 11 digs led seven Mountain Cats who had three or more kills.  Mallory Pinske collected nine kills and three block assists, and Reagan Morris added five kills.
 
Adiamar Beaz (13 assists) and Liredys Casiano (11 assists, 5 digs) combined for 24 set assists in the sweep, while Ally Diamond tallied seven digs and two service aces for Pitt-Johnstown.
 
Salem, which fell to 0-4 on the year, was led by Makhia Hinton's six kills.
 
The Mountain Cats travel to Wayne State (MI) Tournament on Friday and Saturday, before visiting West Liberty (WV) for a non-conference match on September 6.  Pitt-Johnstown will make its home debut with a non-conference match against Salem on September 13 at 6 p.m. in the Sports Center.
