Mountain Cats Fall 4-2 in PSAC West Match Against Indiana (PA)

Johnstown, PA

Stephens_MacKenzie.jpgMacKenzie Stephens scored early into the match to tie the score at 1, but Indiana University (PA)'s high-powered attack in the second half was enough to hand the Mountain Cats a 4-2 PSAC Western Division loss on Wednesday afternoon.

IUP's Hannah Scardina opened up scoring in the 10th minute, scoring in the low left corner to give the Crimson Hawks an early 1-0 lead. The Mountain Cats responded several moments later, in the 19th minute, as Stephens scored off a corner kick with an assist from Emily Esser.

The Crimson Hawks would jump back ahead in the 41st minute, when an Aislinn Meaney goal made the score 2-1, before adding two more goals in the 67th and 68th minutes to widen the lead to 4-1.

Esser would cut the deficit to two in the 83rd minute, scoring the final points of the day off a well-placed shot to the low right corner of the net with an assist from Haley Neidig.

Esser_Emily.jpgPitt-Johnstown goalkeeper Sachi Negri allowed four goals and made five saves while facing 15 shots on the day. The Mountain Cats managed to get 12 shots against the Crimson Hawks' goalkeeper, Samantha Gildner, who made four saves and allowed two goals.

With the loss, Pitt-Johnstown fell to 3-3-2 on the year, and 3-2-1 in conference play. Indiana (PA) improved their record to 2-1-3.
