Lamesta's first half goal lifts women's soccer over Gannon

Lamesta_Sophia.jpgNegri_Sachi.jpgSophia Lamesta's first half goal proved to be all Pitt-Johnstown needed to secure a 1-0 victory and deal PSAC West leading Gannon its first conference loss on Wednesday afternoon.

The Mountain Cats improved to 4-4-2 (4-3-1 in conference play).

Lamesta, who notched her first tally of the season and the second of her collegiate career, went top shelf to beat Golden Knights goalkeeper Kennedy Solymosi early on in the 18th minute.

Mountain Cats goalkeeper Sachi Negri faced 14 shots and made eight saves. Haley Neidig racked up six shots, four of them on goal. Morgan Kost had two shots on goal.

Sarah Fails totaled seven shots, five of them on goal, for the Golden Knights, who dropped to 6-2-2 overall (5-1-2 in PSAC West). Solymosi faced 13 shots and recorded eight saves.

Pitt-Johnstown hosts Edinboro at 1 p.m. on Saturday at the Pitt-Johnstown Soccer Field.
