Lualis Alvarado racked up a team-high 10 kills and 11 digs, Mallory Pinske added eight kills and nine blocks and Pitt-Johnstown beat Ursuline College three sets to one in the 2022 Wayne State (MI) University Warrior Invitational in Detroit on Saturday. The Mountain Cats improved to 2-4 on the season.
With the first set tied at 16-all, Pitt-Johnstown rattled off a 9-1 run, capitalizing on four attack errors by the Arrows to take the set 25-17. After falling behind 4-1 early in the second set, an 8-0 run gave the Mountain Cats a 9-4 lead. They would go up by as many as nine, 21-12, before closing out a 25-17 second set victory with the help of two kills by Alvarado. Ursuline won the third set 25-20 before Pitt-Johnstown sealed the match with a 25-15 victory in the fourth set.
Abi Leitner provided seven kills and eight blocks for the Mountain Cats. Adiamar Beaz compiled 21 assists, 21 digs and three aces. Karin Ilagan added a match-high 26 digs. Isabella Gomez had nine assists and five digs.
Ursuline College, which received 11 kills from Abigail Aguilera-Ayala and 10 kills from Maleah Gibbons, fell to 2-4 on the season.
