Women's soccer falls in 2-0 loss to Mercyhurst

Neidig_Haley.jpgNegri_Sachi.jpgPitt-Johnstown goalkeeper Sachi Negri faced 21 shots and made nine saves, but Mercyhurst posted a goal in each half to upend the Mountain Cats 2-0 in a PSAC West women's soccer matchup at Richland High School on Wednesday.

Emily Mijares tallied an unassisted goal in the 32nd minute to open the scoring for the Lakers (3-1). In the 57th minute, Fern Lazenby scored after finding the upper right corner of the net on an assist from Madison Hoover.

Alyssa Otto and Mijares each had three shots on goal for Mercyhurst.

Haley Neidig had three shots for Pitt-Johnstown. Emily Esser, Sophia Lamesta, Morgan Kost and Megan Dietz each recorded a shot on goal for the Mountain Cats, who fell to 0-2-2 overall and 0-1-1 in PSAC play.

Pitt-Johnstown hosts California (PA) in another PSAC West match at 1 p.m. on Saturday at the Pitt-Johnstown Soccer Field.
