Jacob Ealy, Seventh-Ranked Wrestlers Take Down 14th-Ranked Gannon, 28-6

Jacob Ealy, the nation's No. 1-ranked wrestler at 149 lbs., upended second-ranked Nick Young to help the seventh-ranked Pitt-Johnstown wrestlers race out to a 19-0 lead on their way to improving to 10-0 overall and 3-0 in the PSAC with a 28-6 win over 14th-ranked Gannon, Wednesday night in the Sports Center.
 
Trevon Gray got the Mountain Cats off and running when he pinned Joe Diaz :48 into the 125-lb bout.
 
At 133 lbs., Byron Daubert used a second period escape to hold off Chase McLaughlin, 1-0, before Caleb Morris secured an 8-0 major decision win over Joel Huck at 141 lbs. that increased the Pitt-Johnstown advantage to 13-0.
 
That all set up the feature bout of the night when Pitt-Johnstown's No. 1-ranked Jacob took on Gannon's second ranked Nick Young at 149 lbs.  Ealy took a narrow, 3-2, lead after one period and held the one-point lead enter the third.  Ealy then got a takedown early in the final period on went on to a 7-6 victory.
 
Another match-up of ranked wrestlers took place at 157 lbs., where Pitt-Johnstown's No. 9 Nate Smith dealt Gannon's No. 8 Dom Means a 3-1 decision loss to increase it to 19-0.
 
The Golden Knights got on the scoreboard at 165 lbs. with 2-time All-American Alex Farenchak's, 4-1, decision over 11th-ranked Dillon Keane, but the Mountain Cats claimed those points right back when Alex Weber got an escape with under five seconds remaining to down Cole Casilio, 4-3, at 174 lbs.
 
After eighth-ranked Brock Biddle followed with a 7-0 win over Cole Hivnor to make it 25-3, Gannon All-American Joel Leise earned an 8-1 win over Dakoda Rodgers at 197 lbs.
 
However, fifth-ranked Isaiah Vance wrapped things up with a convincing, 9-2, win over Eli Reese at 285 lbs.
 
With the loss, Gannon slipped to 4-5 overall and 1-1 in the PSAC.
 
Pitt-Johnstown will host a non-conference match against 16th-ranked Glenville State (WV) on Saturday at 7 p.m. in the Sports Center, before traveling to a PSAC match at Seton Hill on Jan. 28.
