Men’s and Women’s Basketball to Host PSAC Games Against Slippery Rock on Saturday

The Pitt-Johnstown men's and women's basketball teams return home to host a PSAC Western Division doubleheader against Slippery Rock, Saturday afternoon in the Sports Center.  The women will tip-off at 1 p.m. with the men's game scheduled for 3 p.m.

    The Pitt-Johnstown women, under 10th-year Head Coach Mike Drahos, made it two straight wins and raised its record to 10-6 overall and 7-3 in the PSAC West following Wednesday, 73-53, victory at Seton Hill.  Peyton Alazaus poured in a career-high 32 points on 11-16 shooting, including 4-5 from behind the arc and grabbed six boards to pace three Mountain Cat double figure scorers.  Olivia Fasick had 13 points and a game-high seven assists, while Ashley Norling tallied a dozen points and pulled down six rebounds.  Pitt-Johnstown also defeated Indiana (PA), 62-42, last Saturday in the Sports Center.
    Acting Head Coach Chenara Wilson and Slippery Rock are 9-7 overall and 4-6 in the PSAC West after Wednesday's, 67-63 home loss to Edinboro.  Kennedy Middleton's 15 points led the way for the Rock.  Bella Long had 11 points, and Isabellah Middleton chipped-in 10 points and a game-high 12 rebounds for Slippery Rock.  Last Saturday, the Rock dealt Mercyhurst a 60-58 conference loss in Erie.
    The Mountain Cats and Rock split a pair of games last season, with each team winning on its home court.  On Jan. 5 in Slippery Rock, Alazaus scored 15 points and Norling added 13 points and seven rebounds, but the Rock earned a 66-52 victory.  Daeja Quick's game-high 20 points and Jamiyah Johnson's 15 points and game-high 17 rebounds paced Slippery Rock.  The Mountain Cats answered with a 62-45 win in the Sports Center on Feb. 9.  Makalyn Clapper (15 points), Norling (13 points) and Alazaus (12 points) all scored in double figures for Pitt-Johnstown.  Deleah Gibson's 15 points and Johnson's 12 points paced the Rock.

    Head Coach Bob Rukavina's (34th-year) men, come in at 11-5 overall and 7-3 in the PSAC West.  The Mountain Cats are coming off of a 79-71 conference loss at Seton Hill on Wednesday.  John Paul Kromka's 17 points and game-high 15 rebounds and Jared Jakubick's 15 points led four Pitt-Johnstown double figure scorers against the Griffins.  Ryan Smith scored 14 points, while Andrew Shull collected 13 points and a game-high six assists for the Mountain Cats.
    Kromka, who owns Pitt-Johnstown's all-time leader in blocks with 283, ranks fifth on the Mountain Cat All-time Scoring List (1,676 points), fourth on the all-time rebounding list (838 rebounds) and 15th on the Pitt-Johnstown All-Time List (273 assists).  Drew Magestro is currently eighth on the all-time 3-point field goals list with 173.
    Head Coach Ian Grady's (5th year) Slippery Rock squad is 12-4 overall and 6-4 in the PSAC West after snapping a two-game losing skid with a 76-63 home win over Edinboro on Wednesday.  Amante Britt's game-high 17 points paced four Rock players who scored in double figures.  Khalid Gates had 14 points and a game-high 11 rebounds, Jonathan McFall scored 13 points, and Jomo Goings netted a dozen points for Slippery Rock.
    Pitt-Johnstown has won five of the last six meetings between the two teams, including a pair of victories last season.  On Jan. 5 in Slippery Rock, Fred Mulbah scored 24 points, Joe Batt and Kromka each scored 18 points, and Smith added 15 points in a 91-87 Mountain Cat win.  Frankie Hughes' game-high 44 points paced the Rock.  Pitt-Johnstown completed the season sweep with an 84-81 win in the Sports Center on Feb. 9 behind 23 points and eight rebounds from Kromka, and 17 points from Batt.  Hughes had 24 points for Slippery Rock.

    Pitt-Johnstown will host a PSAC West doubleheader against Mercyhurst on Monday starting at 5:30 p.m. in the Sports Center, before traveling to Edinboro for a conference game on Wednesday.
