Pitt-Johnstown could not overcome a second half offensive onslaught by Edinboro in a 76-55 setback on Wednesday night at McComb Fieldhouse. The Mountain Cats, who had their four-game winning streak snapped, dropped to 12-7 (9-4 PSAC).
Peyton Alazaus totaled a team-high 19 points and grabbed five rebounds to pace the Mountain Cats. Ashley Norling shot 6 of 10 from the field and added 15 points to pair with a game-high eight rebounds.
After falling behind by as many as five in the opening quarter, the Mountain Cats went on a 7-0 burst that was capped off with a jumper by Norling to give themselves an 18-16 lead heading into the second.
Alazaus tied the game at 27-all on a layup with just 1:38 to go in the first half, but a late bucket by Edinboro allowed the Scots to take a 29-27 advantage at the break.
The game changed significantly with less than six minutes to play in the third quarter when Edinboro embarked on a 14-0 run that included four 3-pointers, including two by Hayley Sims on back-to-back possessions, to take a 49-33 lead.
Olivia Fasick, who added seven rebounds, scored on a layup with 22 seconds left in the third to trim the deficit to 53-41 going into the fourth. The Scots shot 56.3% (9 of 16) from the field in the third, while the Mountain Cats shot 38.5% (5 of 13).
Edinboro outscored Pitt-Johnstown 23-14 in the fourth. The Scots shot 10 of 15 from the floor in the fourth and knocked down three 3-pointers.
Rana Elhusseini shot 9 of 18 from the floor to net a game-high 25 points to pair with a game-high eight assists for the Scots, who improved to 11-6 (8-4 PSAC).
The Mountain Cats visit California (PA) on Saturday. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m.
