Second-half rally powers Mountain Cats to victory over IUP

Johnstown, PA

After a quiet first half, Pitt-Johnstown exploded for three second half goals to capture a 3-1 victory over Indiana (PA) on Wednesday afternoon.

Behind Sophia Lamesta's first career multi-goal outing, the Mountain Cats exacted revenge for a 3-2 road loss to the Crimson Hawks and improved to 2-8-4 overall (2-7-3 PSAC West). IUP fell to 4-6-3 overall (3-6-2 PSAC).

Following a scoreless first half from both sides, Pitt-Johnstown went up 1-0 in the 51st minute when Haley Neidig posted her team-leading seventh goal of the year off an assist from Lydia Roman.

But the playmaking from Neidig didn't stop there as she solely assisted on both of Lamesta's tallies that came roughly three minutes apart and gave the Mountain Cats a comfortable 3-0 lead.

Maddy Orr scored in the final minute for the Crimson Hawks to break up a possible shutout bid. Aside from that, Parker Grimm was stellar in the net with four saves in all 90 minutes of work. Pitt-Johnstown outshot IUP 15-10, but shots on goal were equal at 5-all.

With just four matches remaining in the regular season, the Mountain Cats visit Seton Hill on Saturday for a 12:30 p.m. start.
