Four different goal-scorers help Mountain Cats beat Cal (PA)

California, PA

Pitt-Johnstown strung together its most complete conference performance of the season in a convincing 4-2 victory over Cal (PA) at Phillipsburg Soccer Facility on Saturday afternoon. The Mountain Cats swept the season-series over the Vulcans and improved to 4-7-1 overall (2-6-1 PSAC West).

Anson Portzline delivered the initial spark with his fifth tally of the season on a penalty kick at the 30:36 mark of the first half. Freshman Kenny Spock padded the lead after recording his first career goal in the 38th minute thanks to an assist from Alexzander Toto and Pitt-Johnstown carried a 2-0 advantage into intermission.

Early in the 67th minute, Josh Sollars notched his second goal in as many games off an assist from Jaeger James to make it 3-0.

Cal responded in the 71st minute, but less than four minutes later, the Mountain Cats went back up by three for the second time on Oscar Trilles Monferrer's second goal of the year.

Pitt-Johnstown had a 9-6 advantage in shots on goal. Goalkeeper PJ Derksen faced 13 shots and totaled four saves in all 90 minutes.

The Mountain Cats travel to Shepherd on Monday to finish a non-league match that was suspended due to storms back on Sept. 9. Pitt-Johnstown will open the second-half with a 1-0 lead.
