Head Coach Mike Drahos and the Pitt-Johnstown women's basketball team will make their 2023-24 home debuts as part of a doubleheader with the 14
th-ranked Pitt-Johnstown wrestling team, Wednesday evening in the Sports Center. The wrestlers will take on East Stroudsburg at 5:30 p.m., prior to the women's basketball non-conference game against Malone at 7:30 p.m.
Pitt-Johnstown kicked off the year with a pair of wins at Frostburg State (MD) Jim Crawley Conference Challenge over the weekend. On Friday,
Peyton Alazaus scored a game-high 22 points, while
Cassidy Crawford and
Hayden Taylor added 14 points apiece to help Pitt-Johnstown to an 81-60 win over Salem (WV). On Saturday, Taylor's late basket lifted Pitt-Johnstown to a 62-60 victory over Frostburg State. Crawford scored a career-high 22 points, Taylor netted 14 points, and Alazaus tallied 13 points.
Malone, under sixth-year
Head Coach Selana Reale, enters the game a 1-1 after opening the season by splitting a pair of home games last weekend. The Pioneers dealt the University of Indianapolis at 74-61 loss behind
Aila Miller's game-high 20 and six rebounds on Friday. Malone then suffered a 73-62 loss to Wayne State (MI) on Saturday.
Brooklyn Troyer had 15 points and
Kyli Horn scored 13 points.
Pitt-Johnstown and Malone met last season for the first time on Nov. 19 and the Pioneers came away with a 96-56 victory in Canton, OH.
Ashley Norling scored 15 points, and
Olivia Fasick and
Crawford added 10 points apiece for the Mountain Cats. Malone was led by
Alexis Hutchinson's game-high of 21 points and 11 rebounds, and 19 points each from
Emma Kallas and
Troyer.
Pitt-Johnstown travels to Saginaw Valley State (MI) for a non-conference game on Monday, before hosting a non-conference game against 2022 NCAA National Champion and 2023 Final Four participant Glenville State (WV) on Nov. 27 at 6 p.m. in the Sports Center.
