Basketball Teams to Host Bloomsburg on Monday, East Stroudsburg on Tuesday Before Breaking for Holidays

The Pitt-Johnstown men's and women's basketball teams will host a pair of PSAC Crossover doubleheaders before breaking for the Holidays.  On Monday, the Mountain Cats will welcome Bloomsburg to the Sports Center with games at 5:30 and 7:30 p.m., before hosting East Stroudsburg at 1:00 and 3:00 PM on Tuesday.
 
Pitt-Johnstown, 6-2 overall and 1-1 in the PSAC under 11th-year Head Coach Mike Drahos, got game-highs of 24 points and 14 rebounds from Cassidy Crawford and 22 points on 8-12 shooting from Peyton Alazaus in a 73-65 victory at Wheeling (WV) on Friday.  Pitt-Johnstown also split two games top start PSAC Crossover action.  After falling at Lock Haven on Dec. 1, the Mountain Cats bounced back with a 68-54 win at Mansfield on Dec. 2.
 
With her seven points against Wheeling Friday evening, Olivia Fasick moved to within five points of becoming Pitt-Johnstown's 39th 1,000-point scorer.
 
Head Coach Alison Tagliaferri's (8th year) Bloomsburg Huskies, 3-5 overall and 1-1 in the PSAC, made it two straight wins with a 107-97, triple overtime victory at sixth-ranked Jefferson on Dec. 9.  Katie Starr poured in a game-high 26 points and grabbed 13 rebounds, while Ella Kale and Maddie LaFrance each scored 20 points to pace five Huskies who scored in double figures.  Bloomsburg also suffered a home loss to No. 9 Gannon on Dec. 1, then defeated Clarion, 81-79 on Dec. 2 to open PSAC Crossover-play.
 
Since the 2004-05 season, Pitt-Johnstown and Bloomsburg have met 11 times, and the Mountain Cats hold a 7-4 advantage.  Pitt-Johnstown has won the last two meetings, including a 54-50, road win in the last meeting on Dec. 2, 2022.  Alazaus (16 points), Ashley Norling (13 Points), and Fasick (10 points) all scored in double figures for the Mountain Cats, while Hailey Hudak's 10 points and Starr's nine points and seven rebounds paced the Huskies.
 
Prior to Monday's game at Clarion, East Stroudsburg, under fourth-year Head Coach Stephanie Del Preore, was 2-5 overall and 0-2 in conference-play.  The Warriors suffered a 47-45 non-conference loss to Holy Family on Dec. 10.  Corrin  Gill and 14 points and Jessica Polin had nine points.  East Stroudsburg also lost to Mercyhurst and No. 9 Gannon to begin PSAC Crossover-play on Dec. 1 and 2.
 
Since joining the PSAC in 2013, holds a 5-1 advantage over Pitt-Johnstown.  Last season the teams met in East Stroudsburg and the Warriors came away with a 57-39 win on Dec. 3.  Fasick scored 14 points and Crawford added eight points and seven rebounds for the Mountain Cats.  Cassidy Saylor's game-high 16 points and Ryan Weise's 12 points and seven rebounds paced the Warriors.
 
 
Head Coach Bob Rukavina's (35th-year) Pitt-Johnstown Mountain Cats, 2-6 overall and 0-2 in the PSAC, are coming off of a 92-67 home setback to Indianapolis on Friday.  Ryan Smith scored 12 points and pulled down five rebounds, while Gavin Headings and Vinnie Cugini each scored 11 points.  Andrew Shull tallied 10 points and a game-high seven assists for the Mountain Cats.  Pitt-Johnstown tipped-off PSAC Crossover-action with a pair of tough road losses.  On Dec. 1, Lock Haven defeated the Mountain Cats, 80-66, and on Dec. 2, Mansfield earned a 68-57 victory.
 
Bloomsburg, 2-6 overall and 0-2 in the PSAC under second-year Head Coach Chris Bess, suffered its fourth consecutive loss following Thursday's 107-66 setback at Charleston (WV).  Raphael Castillo scored 20 points and Jake Nelson tallied 15 points against the Golden Eagles.  The Huskies also began conference play with a 128-113 loss to Gannon on Dec. 1 and a 98-82 loss to Clarion on Dec. 2.
 
Since first meeting during the 1988-89 season, Pitt-Johnstown holds a 23-14 advantage in the series.  The Mountain Cats have won six of the last seven meetings, including a 77-59 win in Bloomsburg last season on Dec. 3.  John Paul Kromka scored 16 points and grabbed a game-high 14 rebounds, while Smith netted a dozen points to lead four Mountain Cat double-figure scorers.  Desmond Freeman's game-high 18 points, and Nelson's nine points and 11 boards led the way for the Huskies.
 
Head Coach Jeff Wilson's (21st year) East Stroudsburg Warriors, receiving votes in the most recent D2CSC National Poll, were 6-1 overall and 1-1 in the PSAC before Monday's game at Clarion.  On Dec. 10, the Warriors earned a 113-93 home win over Holy Family.  Nasir Griffin scored 20 points and Tyshawn Trail added 19 points to lead six players who scored in double figures.  East Stroudsburg also earned a 65-64 win over Mercyhurst on Dec. 1, before suffering a 110-96 loss to Gannon on Dec. 2 to begin PSAC Crossover-play.
 
     East Stroudsburg holds a slim, 8-6, advantage in the series that dates back to the 1991-92 season.  The teams split the last two meetings.  In 2019-20, the Mountain Cats secured a 79-62 victory over East Stroudsburg.  However, The Warriors answered with a 92-60 win in East Stroudsburg on Dec. 3, 2022.  Smith scored 18 points and pulled down six rebounds, and Joe Batt tallied 14 points to lead Pitt-Johnstown.  The Warriors got a game-high 20 points from David Duda, Jr. and 18 points and a game-high 13 rebounds from Carlos Pepin.
 
The Mountain Cats will break for the holidays before visiting Kutztown for a conference crossover game on Dec. 30.  Pitt-Johnstown will begin the second semester with a crossover doubleheader against Shippensburg on Jan. 3 at 5:30 and 7:30 p.m. in the Sports Center.
