The Pitt-Johnstown men's and women's basketball teams return to the Sports Center Saturday afternoon to host a PSAC Western Division doubleheader against Seton Hill. The women will tip-off at 1 p.m., with the men's game against the Griffins set for 3 p.m.
Head Coach Mike Drahos (10
th year) and the Pitt-Johnstown Mountain Cats, sitting in fifth-place, just a half a game out of third in the PSAC West standings, look to bounce back for a narrow, 70-66, conference loss at Indiana (PA) on Wednesday. Pitt-Johnstown, 13-10 overall and 10-7 in the PSAC, got 15 points apiece from
Peyton Alazaus and
Makalyn Clapper, while
Hayden Taylor scored a dozen points and
Ashley Norling collected 11 points and a team-high seven rebounds for the Mountain Cats.
Cassidy Crawford had six points and four boards, and
Olivia Fasick added five points, three rebounds, and a team-high four assists.
Seton Hill, in sixth-place in the PSAC West standings under 10
th-year
Head Coach Mark Katarski, had its three-game winning streak snapped and slipped to 17-10 overall and 10-8 in the PSAC with Wednesday's 101-99 double overtime loss to Edinboro.
Christiane Frye poured in a game-high 39 points and pulled down seven rebounds, and
Courtney Tomas scored 11 points and had 15 rebounds to lead four Griffins who scored in double figures.
Pitt-Johnstown and Seton Hill have met 31 times since the 2008-08 season, and the Griffins hold a slim, 17-14 advantage. However, the Mountain Cats have won the last three meeting, including a 73-53 win in Greensburg on Jan. 18.
Alazaus poured in a career-high 32 points, and
Fasick and
Norling added 13 and 12 points, respectively for Pitt-Johnstown.
Frye's 15 points and
Sakeria Haralson's seven points and game-high eight rebounds led the way for Seton Hill.
Head Coach Bob Rukavina's (34
th-year) Pitt-Johnstown Mountain Cats, ranked 10th in the D2SIDA Atlantic Region Rankings at 17-6 overall and 13-4 in the PSAC, gave top-ranked Indiana (PA) everything it could handle on Wednesday before suffering a 70-60 setback.
John Paul Kromka's 21 points led three Mountain Cat double figure scorers.
Joe Batt had 10 points and five rebounds and
Ryan Smith had 10 and four rebounds. Pitt-Johnstown also got nine points and five boards from
Andew Shull and six points and a team-high five assists from
Jared Jakubick.
Kromka, Pitt-Johnstown's all-time leader in blocks with 299, ranks third on the Mountain Cat All-time Scoring List (1,814 points), third on the all-time rebounding list (891 rebounds), and 15
th on the Pitt-Johnstown All-Time List. (286 assists).
Drew Magestro is currently seventh on the all-time 3-point field goals list with (180), and
Batt enters the game with 976 career points, 24 points shy of becoming the Mountain Cats' 34
th 1,000-point scorer.
Seton Hill, under first-year
Head Coach Ben Wilkins, increased its win streak to three games and improved to 15-9 overall and 10-8 in the PSAC with Wednesday's 103-81 victory over Edinboro.
Sean Dillon scored 23 points, while
Samuel Tabe had 16 points and 10 rebounds and
Ryan Meis chipped-in 16 points.
Since 2006-07, Pitt-Johnstown holds a 25-9 advantage in the series. However, the Griffins were able to snap a four-game losing streak to the Mountain Cats with a 79-71 win in Greensburg on Jan. 18. Kromka's 17 points and game-high 15 rebounds and
Jakubick's 15 points paced four Pitt-Johnstown double-figure scorers.
Dillon had 17 points and
Meis chipped-in 15 points to lead the Griffins.
The Pitt-Johnstown men and women travel to a PSAC game at Mercyhurst on Wednesday, before returning home to celebrate Senior Day with conference doubleheader against Edinboro, next Saturday.
