On a day where Pitt-Johnstown basketball welcomed back alumni, family and friends as part of the Winterfest Weekend celebration, the Cats outscored the Golden Eagles 51-37 in the second half to improve to 16-5 (12-3 PSAC).

Senior John Paul Kromka filled up the stat sheet for Pitt-Johnstown with 17 points, four assists, four steals, three blocks and three rebounds. Jared Jakubick went 7 for 7 at the free throw line and finished with 11 points, while Ryan Smith added 11 points, five rebounds and five assists. Joe Batt finished with 10 points and six boards.

Drew Magestro knocked down two free throws to help the Cats claw back within eight, 38-30, heading into the break. Pitt-Johnstown opened the second half on an 8-0 run to tie the game on Batt's jumper less than three minutes into the second half.

The Cats took their first lead of the day at 49-48 when Smith connected on a jumper with 13:03 remaining. Clarion refused to go away over the final 10 minutes and even held a 70-69 advantage with 5:16 left to play.

Kromka's layup off an assist from Smith just 17 seconds later provided the Cats with a 71-70 lead that they would never let fade away. The Cats went a perfect 12 of 12 from the free throw line over the final 4:40 to stave off the Golden Eagles.

Smith's two free throws at the 2:45 mark increased the lead to as large as seven. The Cats finished 24 of 28 from the free throw line and outscored Clarion in the paint 28-22.

A 77% (17 of 22) shooting performance in the second half highlighted the comeback effort.

Steve Kelly scored a game-high 24 points for Clarion, which fell to 3-19 (1-15 PSAC).

The Cats visit Gannon on Monday. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m.
