
Asher Corl went had two hits and drove in a pair, but Charleston scored two runs in 10
th to tie it, before walking off with a 5-4, 11-inning victory over Pitt-Johnstown in Friday's opener of a 3-game series in Charleston, W.Va. The Mountain Cats are now 6-5.
Corl scored on
Mario Disso's single to give the Mountain Cats a 1-0 lead in the top of the third, before JD Armstrong's solo homer to lead off the Golden Eagles' half of the fourth off of Pitt-Johnstown starter
Ben Briggs tied it.
Pitt-Johnstown regained the lead in the sixth when
Josh Ulery led off with a triple and scored on Corl's sacrifice fly.
Charleston answered to knot it again with Kyle West's two-out home run in the bottom of the eighth off of Brando Sounders.
Pitt-Johnstown put runners on second and third with one out in the top of the tenth and got a two-run double from
Joey Maun, but Charleston came right back with two in the bottom of the frame.
Corl had two hits, including a double, two RBI, and two runs, while
Dylan Broderick,
Alex Glumac, and Ulery all added two hits.
Garrett Holzapfel suffered the loss in relief after giving the run in the 11
th inning. Briggs tossed the first six inning and limited Charleston to a run on three hits. Briggs also fanned six and walked three.
However, the Golden Eagles were able to scratch out a run in the bottom of the 11
th to walk off with the 5-4 win.
The Golden Eagles improved to 10-4.
Pitt-Johnstown will compete the 3-game series at Charleston with a seven inning game and a nine inning game on Saturday, before making its 2023 home debut with a four-game series against East Stroudsburg on March 17-18 at Point Stadium.
