Softball Takes Nightcap, 6-2, to Split PSAC Games With Edinboro

Ebensburg, PA

Pitt-Johnstown scored five runs over the final two innings, including Julia Mooney's two-run single in the bottom of the fifth inning, in a 6-2 victory over Edinboro in game two of Sunday's PSAC West softball doubleheader at Central Cambria High School.  The Fighting Scots took the opener, 4-1.  The Mountain Cats are now 7-9 overall and 2-2 in conference-play.

In game one, Antonia Schaefer tripled with two outs in the top of the third and scored on a wild pitch to give Edinboro a 1-0 lead, before three more unearned runs in the fifth made it 4-0.

Kayla Miehl led of the Pitt-Johnstown bottom of the seventh with a solo home run to right-center field, but Edinboro starter Macy Sral was able to get the final two outs to close out the 4-1 Edinboro win.

Along with Miehl's homer, Jenna Tallman added a base hit for the Mountain Cats.

Tori Radvan slipped to 2-3 after allowing four runs, but just one earned run, in the complete-game.  Radvan scattered six hits, struck out five and walked one.

In game two, Pitt-Johnstown opened the scoring in the bottom of the third.  Audrey Paterson led off with a double to left-center and moved to third on a Hannah Gnibus sacrifice bunt.  Paterson then scored from third on a double-steal to give the Mountain Cats a 1-0 lead.

Pitt-Johnstown added three more in the fifth.  Radvan reached on an error, moved to second on Gnibus' base hit and scored on Emilia Santiago's single to left.  Mooney then singled down the right field line to chase home Gnibus and Santiago to increase it to 4-0.

Edinboro answered with a run in the top of the sixth, but Radvan doubled and scored on a Fighting Scots' throwing error, and Gnibus added an RBI groundout in the bottom of the frame to give Pitt-Johnstown a 6-2 advantage.

Cheyenne Shughart connected for a solo homer in the seventh for Edinboro that set the final at 6-2.

Mia Smith improved to 5-2 after holding the Fighting Scots to two runs on four hits in a complete-game.  Smith also fanned five and didn't allow a walk.

Miehl had two hits, while Radvan doubled and scored a pair of runs, and Mooney drove in a pair with a base hit to lead the Mountain Cats.  Santiago and Gnibus each had a hit and an RBI, and Paterson doubled.

With the split, the Fighting Scots are now 8-8 overall and 2-2 in the PSAC West.

The Mountain Cats travel to a PSAC West doubleheader at Seton Hill on Tuesday, before hosting a conference doubleheader against Gannon on Wednesday at 2 p.m. at V.E. Erickson Complex.
