Kayla Miehl had three hits, including a three-run homer, but Southwest Minnesota State used a five-run third inning to upend the Pitt-Johnstown softball team, 7-3, Thursday afternoon in Clermont Fla.
Â
Southwest Minnesota State jumped out to a 2-0 first inning lead, then took advantage of two Mountain Cat errors to add five more in the third.
Â
The Mountain Cats answered in the top of the seventh. Back-to-back one-out singles from
Laura Fox and
Julia Mooney got things started. Miehl then belted a three-run home run to left to cut it to 7-3, but Pitt-Johnstown wasn't able to get closer.
Â
Miehl went 3-for-3 with a homer, a double, and three RBI, and
Alexis Hrivnak collected a pinch-hit double for the Mountain Cats. Pitt-Johnstown also got hits from
Emilia Santiago,
Brynnae Coe, and Fox.
Â
Miehl started and suffered the loss after surrendering seven runs, but just four earned runs, over the first three innings. She struck out two and didn't allow a walk.Â
Tori Radvan held Southwest Minnesota State scoreless on three hits over the final three innings.
Â
Pitt-Johnstown will wrap-up its Spring Trip in Florida with games against Bloomfield (NJ) and Saint Thomas Aquinas (NY) on Friday and Grand Valley State (MI) and Kentucky Wesleyan on Saturday.
