Dylan Broderick collected six hits and drove in two, but Seton Hill walked off with a pair of extra-inning PSAC West victories over the Mountain Cats, Sunday afternoon in Greensburg. After taking game one, 2-1 in eight innings, the Griffins used a bases loaded wild pitch to complete the sweep with a 7-6 win in 13 innings in the nightcap. Pitt-Johnstown is now 8-15 overall and 2-4 in conference-play.
In the opener, Pitt-Johnstown's
Ben Briggs and Seton Hill's Kevin Vaupel locked up in a scoreless pitcher's duel until Vincenzo Rauso's sacrifice fly in the bottom of the fourth gave the Griffins a 1-0 advantage.
It stayed that way until the top of the seventh. The Mountain Cats puts runners on second and third and were able to tie it on
Justin Turcovski's sacrifice fly to center that chased home
Alex Glumac, who led off the inning with a base hit.
After Briggs held Seton Hill scoreless in the bottom of the seventh to force extra innings, and Pitt-Johnstown failed to score in the top of the eighth, Cameron Coldwell reached on Briggs' throwing error to start the bottom of the eighth.
Garrett Holzapfel entered the game in relief. Seton Hill loaded the bases and Jack Oberdorf's one-out, RBI single to left gave the Griffins a 2-1, walk-off victory.


Broderick went 4-for-4, while
Mario Disso collected two this, and
Alex Glumac added a base hit for Pitt-Johnstown.
Holszhapfel took the loss and slipped to 1-2 after allowing a run on two hits in the eighth. Briggs pitched the first 7+ innings and limited the Griffins to a run on just four hits. Briggs struck out one and walked three in the no-decision.
Game two was just as tight with Mountain Cat
Rodney Shultz and Griffin Jon McCullough each tossing no-hitters through three innings until
Erik Rhodes' two-out double in the Pitt-Johnstown top of the fourth.
Pitt-Johnstown broke the scoreless tie in the top of the fifth when
Jake Ansell singled home Disso, but Seton Hill quickly knotted it at one on Rauso's RBI base hit in the bottom of the inning.
The Griffins took the lead in the sixth when Oberdorf doubled, moved to third, and scored on Braden Durham's infield single, but Broderick's clutch, two-out RBI single in the top of the seventh got the Mountain Cats even at two.
Following a scoreless eighth inning, Broderick delivered again. This time with an RBI double that scored
Noah Donis to give Pitt-Johnstown the lead.
Josh Ulery then singled home two more and the Mountain Cats took a 5-2 lead into the bottom of the ninth.
However, the Griffins responded with three runs to tie it at five off of Pitt-Johnstown relievers
Luke Schrock and
Austin Hammerle.
In the top of the 12
th, the Mountain Cats loaded the bases and got an RBI single from
Asher Corl to regain the lead, but Seton Hill tied in in the bottom of the 12
th with a run off of
Devon Boyles.
The Griffins walked-off with the win in the bottom of the 13
th inning. Seton Hill loaded the bases with two out, and Oberdorf scored on a wild pitch to set the final at 7-6.
Ansell went 3-for-5 with an RBI, while Broderick had two hits, including a double and an RBI for the Mountain Cats. Disso, Rhodes, and Donnis also had two this apiece, and Ulery drove in two.
Boyles suffered the loss in relief and fell to 0-1 after giving up two runs on two hits in 1.2 innings. Shultz pitched the first seven innings and limited Seton Hill to a run on four hits.
With the sweep, the Griffins improved to 18-7 overall and 6-0 in the PSAC West.
Pitt-Johnstown will conclude the PSAC West series against Seton Hill with a doubleheader on Monday at Point Stadium starting at 3 p.m., before visiting Shippensburg for a non-conference game on Tuesday.
